JUNGLE ADVENTURE WITH THE OKAINAS

Mitú, the capital of Vaupés, is accessible by commercial flight, usually from Bogotá, or by charter flight from other locations. The main objective of this expedition with SELVAVENTURA is to explore the Cananarí River , visit some traditional malocas (longhouses) along the way, climb the sacred tepui (mountain range) of Morroco, and hike a section of the Apaporis River. Navigation, primarily on calm waters (by motorboat and/or kayaks – upon request), is combined with rapids and jungle hikes, depending on water levels at the time of year. The adventure involves flying in a private plane from Mitú to the area of interest (day 1) and returning to Mitú (last day) by the same means. To avoid flight disruptions, it is necessary to spend at least one night in Mitú, both the first and last nights after the adventure.

In its simplest form, a trip through part of the Cananarí and Apaporis rivers can be completed in a minimum of 4 days (3 nights in the countryside). However, the more comprehensive Cananarí-Apaporis experience suggests a 6-night stay in the area. Additionally, while in Mitú, during your free time you can visit the following must-see sites: Cerro Flecha, Ceima Cachivera, Urania, the main square, the waterfront promenade, and the bridge over the Vaupés River.

If you're looking for a group trip (at a lower cost), check out our calendar of scheduled experiences. Share your dates, destination, and preferred type of experience with us. We'll help you find the best option.
